Explore one of Germany’s busiest railways, race through Bavaria, and experience the hustle and bustle of modern commuting with Train Sim World 2: Hauptstrecke München – Augsburg. Arriving on Train Sim World 2 on October 22nd.
Constructed and opened in 1840, the line has seen various modifications and upgrades. The most recent one was completed in 2011, which increased 43 km of the mainline to 4 tracks between Augsburg and Olching. This was to give the powerful DB BR 403 ICE 3 the freedom to get up to impressive speeds of 230 km/h and allow an increase of traffic across the route.
The route is one of Europe's busiest, being used by approximately 300 trains per day, being utilised by large freight trains, regional S-Bahn passenger services, and long-distance highspeed trains. As one of the major traffic axis serving much of Europe, it regularly has services destined for Paris and Budapest appearing on its timetable.
The route is home to a plethora of interesting and varied architectural designs, from the iconic girder bridges as you enter München, including the iconic Hackerbrücke to the modern S-Bahn stations dotted along the route. Augsburg Hauptbahnhof has one of the oldest station halls in Germany dating back to the 1840s, retaining the classic design features synonymous with larger German through stations of that era, giving the beginning or conclusion to any journey a fantastic backdrop.
München Hauptbahnhof station is an engineering and logistical marvel, a new beginning was marked in 1950 following the destruction of much of the original station in World War 2. Several renovations and extensions were included in this beautiful open plan station, this included a new hotel, improvements in radio communication for shunting and electrification of the Holzkirchen wing station, the current station building was completed in August of 1960.
The surrounding infrastructure of the station is a complex maze of points, lines, and sidings, serving a total of 32 platforms in the mainline terminal. This impressive network of track is overseen by the central signaling centre. Brought into operation in 1964 and controlled by 38 signaling staff, they control a staggering 295 sets of points and 446 sets of signals.
