**Welcome to our first Anglers Spotlight. Today we have an interview with a player many of you in the community already know and if you don’t, he’s our 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic Champion Sw1fty_8_6_TTV [http://www.twitch.tv/sw1fty_8_6_ttv]. ** We talk with Sw1fty about how he prepares for online tournaments, adapting to changing conditions, and what winning the 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic meant to him. Let’s get stuck into it. Benjamin - Thank you for taking some time to talk with us and congratulations on your win at our debut online event, the 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic at Lake Hartwell, and for coming third in our most recent event, the 2022 Online Chickamauga Elite! How long have you been playing Dovetail Games fishing titles? Sw1fty - I started playing Euro Fishing back in 2015 and since then have played Fishing Sim World: Pro Tour and The Catch: Carp & Coarse. I compete in the monthly Dovetail Fishing League on Fishing Sim World which is a bit like the tournaments in Bassmaster Fishing 2022 and I’m pretty consistently top 3 every month. I think the Dovetail Fishing League has probably helped in some small ways but tournaments in Bassmaster are a lot more fun especially when you spot a lunker in the underwater camera. Will it or won’t it bite!? Benjamin - How do you prepare for online tournaments? Sw1fty - I prepare for online tournaments by spending as much time as I can out on the lake the event is being held on. I spend this time looking for hotspots, named legendary fish and trying to work out what setup is going work best once I find a location I like. I also will speak to other players in the community that do well on the game for their feedback and trade information. *Benjamin - What did winning the 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic mean to you? * Sw1fty - It meant a lot to me as it was the first online cross-platform tournament held on the game. That's special as there will only ever be one first tournament. Benjamin - During the events if things aren’t going well, what do you do to adapt and start catching lunkers? Sw1fty - It’s simple really I have a number of hotspots I use that are usually close together, I'll just move to a new spot until I land a big fish. There is no point sticking to one spot hoping it will get better if you aren’t catching fish. Benjamin - What’s your go-to loadout for big bass? Sw1fty - I always use a size 4/0 hook on a Jighead, drop-shot or any other hook type that allows for soft-plastics. The lures I use are the Jenko Fishing 7-inch Tremor Shad and the 8-inch Booty Shaker. Big lures catch big bass! Benjamin - What advice would you give someone thinking about taking part in a tournament for the first time? Sw1fty - Just give it a go. Don’t be worried and just have fun. Also as I stated earlier, don't be afraid to ask others for help, get onto Twitch and other streaming platforms, watch how people tackle the event, and learn from them. Benjamin - What advice would you give to players who have their sights set on winning one of our online tournaments? Sw1fty - Make sure you put the hours in before the tournament, the more the better. But don't be disheartened if you don't win, just have fun and aim for a top 25% finish that's still an awesome achievement. We cast our minds back to the origins of Lake Seminole and its place in the history of Bassmaster events.

It's time for the first Online Open Series event at Lake Seminole! The Open Series has started and ends after a Championship Weekend on May 23. Do you have what it takes to be crowned the first Online Open Series winner? There’s only one way to find out and that’s out on the water. What is Lake Seminole Online Open Series? Today, May 6 players across all platforms will be competing against each other in a 3-round tournament to see who will be crowned the first Lake Seminole Online Open Series winner! The competition follows official Bassmaster rules, meaning the combined weight of your top 5 weight bass (Largemouth and Spotted) will be added to the leader board. Round 1 has started and will run till May 12. Round 2 will kick off at 00:00 PST/08:00 UTC May 13 to May 19 Round 3, like the other rounds, will start at 00:00 PST/08:00 UTC on May 20 and will end on May 23 00:00 PST/08:00 UTC. As Lake Seminole is a DLC venue that comes included in the Bass Lake Bundle, all players who own the Bass Lake Bundle will be eligible for 3 attempts per round. If you do not own the Bass Lake Bundle you can still take part and will have 1 attempt per round to post the highest total weight possible. Eeach attempt gives you 60 minutes out on the water, so use that time wisely! Your attempt will end when the timer hits 0:00. If you need to/want to you can suspend your attempt and return to it later, you can do this via the pause menu. Hit “Submit”, then “Pause Attempt”. Just make sure you complete your attempts before the round ends. The winner will be the player who has the highest total weight over the 3 rounds. An update has gone live to bring some changes to Lake Seminole for the competition, these changes are as follows: * The population of Largemouth Bass and Spotted Bass has been increased. * Balancing to the chances of catching BIG bass has reduced while the chance of catching small to medium size bass has been increased. * The population of Black Crappie, White Crappie, Bluegill, Blue Catfish, Flathead Catfish, Channel Catfish, Chain Pickerel, and Longnose Gar has been reduced. To compete in the event from the main menu click on Bassmaster Online. How is the Online Open Series different from the Online Elite events? Firstly, they run for longer! Our Elite events last 10 days with Round 1 being 7 days, Round 2 being 2 days and Round 3 being 1 day – whilst our Open Series events run for 17 days with Rounds 1 and 2 lasting 7 days, and the final round giving players 3 days to complete their attempts. Whereas with the Online Elite events, we want to encapsulate the intensity and fierce competition of the real-world Bassmaster Elite, including culminating in a Championship Sunday, the Open Series events are less time-pressured, which allow for you to manage your attempts more easily. This doesn't mean that it's any more relaxed though! The overall format is the same between the competitions, and winning will feel just as sweet! Rewards The only other difference is the in-game reward structure. Open Series events will have 2 rewards up for grabs. A participation jersey and a winner’s jersey. Welcome, it’s Bass Bulletin time. Let's jump in and talk about all things Bassmaster Fishing 2022. In this month’s Bass Bulletin, we will be talking about the future of online tournaments, the Elite Fishing Pack, Bass Lake Bundle, and launching the game on Epic Store and PlayStation Asia. We’ll also look back at our inaugural 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic and the 2022 Online Chickamauga Lake Elite event that has just wrapped up. To close things out we sit down with Des O’Connor for a deep dive on why the bass in Bassmaster Fishing 2022 are bigger than in real life. Online Tournaments In February we kicked off our first online tournament in Bassmaster Fishing 2022 with the 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic that synced up with the real world Bassmaster Classic at the iconic Lake Hartwell. The idea behind these events is to simulate the structure of real-world competitions by breaking up the event into 3 rounds of competitive fishing with your best 5 catches from each round contributing to your overall score and the winner being the angler with the highest total weight. Our second online event, the 2022 Online Chickamauga Lake Elite started April 1 and finished April 11. We want to keep the momentum of these online competitive events going and as a team, we are busy planning out a schedule of events throughout the year to keep those competitive juices flowing. The next event will be an Open Series event at Lake Seminole running from May 6 to May 23. The Open Series events will be more casual and run for longer than our Elite, Classic, or Special events to give you more time to compete when it suits you. In-game rewards for taking part in the Open Series events are still up for grabs however, bragging rights and being crowned the first Bassmaster Online Open Champion are very much all to play for. 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic Over 2000 players took part in the 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic and these are the anglers who took the top 3 positions. Sw1fty also streams his attempts live on Twitch so go drop him a follow! 2022 Online Chickamauga Lake Elite Our second online tournament has just wrapped up and it’s been awesome to see so many people taking part. The competition was fierce - there really wasn’t much in it at the top of the leader boards, so congratulations to everyone who took part. Here are our top 10 anglers from the event. Deep Dive : The size of bass in Bassmaster Fishing 2022 Sticking with tournaments, we have seen lots of discussion among the community about how the sizes of bass in Bassmaster Fishing 2022 compared to the real-world, so Benjamin from the community had a chat with Des O’Connor, Studio Producer to talk about bass. Benjamin - We always knew when developing BM22 that the goal was to create a game that provided players with the challenge and thrill of catching big bass. During the planning stage of the game was there a discussion around the size and weight of qualifying bass species (Largemouth, Smallmouth, and Spotted Bass?) Des – For sure. The strapline for Bassmaster as an organization is Big Bass, Big Stage, Big Dreams. So we were always going to feature big bass in the game. However, we wanted there to be fewer of them than in Fishing Sim World, so it feels more exciting when you catch one. Benjamin - Among the community, there has been lots of discussion around whether or not the size and weight of bass in BM22 should be representative of real life. Obviously, we can’t please everyone but why is it we opted to go down the route of having larger-than-life bass? Des – The maximum size of the stock bass in each of our venues is based on real-world data provided to us by a freshwater biologist in our community so we know the weight range is correct for the location. When populating the waters with fish, we must balance the weight ranges so that it is exciting for both single-player, and for competitive multiplayer. Have we got this balance perfect? Probably not. There are thousands of Bass in each venue, and less than 1% of these are in the highest weight range. Now, what we have seen from the recent asynchronous tournaments that we have been running is that the community is very good at the game. The size of bags being caught in a 1-hour session has been huge, so we are looking at the balance of the weight ranges and will be looking to make some changes in this area over the coming months. We still want to have the giants for players to hunt, but we would like the frequency that they are landed to be reduced. Ben - How do you think the experience of fishing in Bassmaster Fishing 2022 would change if we were to, say, reduce the number of larger bass in the game? Des – We think by reducing the number of the largest bass in the game we can increase the thrill of catching them, whilst also bringing down the bag sizes a bit closer to more realistic weights. But I imagine we will still have scores on our leader boards that are far bigger than in real life. If you look at the catches from the real-world Elite event at Chickamauga Lake this last weekend, you have a field of 94 anglers, landing over 900 bass in a 4-day period. But only one of these Bass was over 10lb. Would players really want catching a 10lb bass in the game to be a 1 in 900 fish occurrence? I think probably not, but I do agree that we have balancing improvements to make. I also want to give a shoutout and a thank you to the community for all of your continued feedback. Making changes to weight ranges and catch rates is a delicate process that we constantly monitor and we will be sure to let you know when any changes are made in update notes. This update provided a number of improvements and fixes to the game, plus the addition of beards, and the ability to change both your beard colour and hair colour. Here are a few of the highlights from that update: * Mastery – We are trialling a possible fix for Mastery Challenges not tracking or completing. Hi there Anglers, We are back with our second update of the year and along with lots of improvements and fixes. We are also happy to say that this update also includes the addition of beards and, the option to change the colour of both your hair and your beard! We can’t wait to see some strong looks out there on the water. Let's get into it! Headlines * Mastery – We are trialing a possible fix for Mastery Challenges not tracking or completing. We recommend all players to log out of Dovetail Live via the settings menu, re-launch the game and log back in. if you continue to experience any issues with Mastery, please let us know HERE [http://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new]. * Fish – When fishing in areas where the water is 60+ feet deep fish are now able to see lures from a greater distance and will now more actively pursue lures that are within their line of sight. * Fish - We have improved the fish behavior to prevent very large groups of fish from congregating at specific POI’s, you will still likely find fish at these POI’s but fish will now be more active throughout the session and will move around venues. * BEARDS – A selection of beards are now available for players to use in game * Hair – You are now able to change the colour of your angler’s hair and beard * Audio – Improvements to audio when fish leap or break the surface of the water during fish fights * Menu – An issue causing the game to crash when navigating to the boat selection screen has now been resolved * Dovetail Live – An issue causing some players to be unable to log into Dovetail Live has been resolved * Loadouts – An issue preventing players from being able to make changes/create new loadouts while fishing on a venue has been resolved * Lures – An issue that was causing Top Water lures to not be able to catch fish has been resolved * UI – An issue that was causing players to have a loss of their UI after catching a fish has been resolved * Language – Japanese language is now supported, to access change your consoles language to Japanese Note: After releasing this update, we have discovered an issue affecting Bassmaster Royale, so we have disabled the servers whilst we investigate. Between the dates of March 4 - 6 the real world 2022 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic® presented by Huk will be held at the iconic, Lake Hartwell. What does that mean for Bassmaster® Fishing 2022, I hear you ask? But let’s talk about the 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic. Here are the key nuggets of information, you can keep reading below for a more detailed breakdown. What is 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic? Starting Feb 24, we are kicking off our inaugural 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic. Players across all platforms will be competing against each other in a 3-round tournament to see who will be crowned the 2022 Online Bassmaster Classic Champion. The competition follows official Bassmaster rules, meaning the combined weight of your top 5 weight bass (Largemouth and Spotted) will be added to the leader board. Round 1 will start at 00:00 PST/08:00 UTC on February 24 and run till March 1. Round 2 will kick off at 00:00 PST/08:00 UTC on March 2 to March 5 with the final round lining up with the real-world final of March 6, like the other rounds it will start at 00:00 PST/08:00 UTC and will end March 7 00:00 PST/08:00 UTC. If you own the Lake Hartwell DLC you will have 3 attempts per round to post the highest total weight you can. If you do not own the DLC you will have 1 attempt per round, but if you complete your attempt and decide you want to try again, purchasing the DLC will enable you to complete your additional 2 attempts. Each attempt is 60 minutes out on the water, you do not need to return to the starting dock, your attempt will end when the timer hits 0:00. If you need to/want to you can suspend your attempt and return to it later via the pause menu. Just make sure you complete your attempts before the round ends. The winner will be the player who has the highest total weight over the 3 rounds. To compete in the event from the main menu click on Bassmaster Online. BEARDS If you’ve ever seen one of our live streams, you’ll know we have a whole host of bearded members of the team (and those that are follically-challenged, who certainly wish they could grow them), and as such, we understand the importance of being able to rep a strong beard on your character. We are pleased to announce, that we are very close to having them available in the game! Alongside the addition of beards to Bassmaster Fishing 2022, we are also implementing additional tools to enable you to change your hair and beard colours giving you greater control over how your player looks. Here are a few sneaky previews of some of the mighty fine beards you’ll be able to rep soon. Game Updates On January 19th, we rolled out our first update of 2022 - which included various improvements and fixes including: * Menu – We have implemented a change that we are hopeful has resolved an issues causing crashes when selecting “Manage” from the main menu. * Venues – Catch rates have been balanced and we will continue to monitor catch rates across all our venues * Multiplayer – When a player leaves an online public server, they will be presented with a catch summary * Angler Hub – Improvements and fixes made to the Progression screen within Player Profile. * Gameplay – Improvements made to catch shots This update was primarily focused on improving the overall stability of the game and that, alongside bug fixes and enhancing the overall experience will be an ongoing effort throughout the year. We are already well on our way towards the next update, and we want to take the opportunity to reiterate that we are listening to you, the players and we are working on resolving issues you have been making us aware of. Game Improvements We are also working on several of the improvements you have been suggesting. We would add that the timeframes on a project like for example, animating lures are currently unknown. It is a highly technical physics-based system that needs to be designed, tested, tweaked, and tested again. There are several plans for improvements to the core game that right now we can’t go into the details of (or provide timeframes on), but rest assured throughout 2022, Bassmaster Fishing 2022 will see a host of new, (and, importantly) free updates like beards and seasonal events plus additional content such as equipment packs and venues. When we have more information about any of these improvements, we’ll let you know. The Future This brings us neatly onto the future and what is in store for Bassmaster Fishing 2022. Now, naturally, we don’t want to ruin any surprises, but what we can say about one of the exciting things coming up is that the real-world Bassmaster Classic is coming up fast. It takes place over the weekend of 4th-6th of March – and, as a little hint, we’d recommend keeping your diaries clear - cancel your “washing your hair” plans, take the phone off the hook, and get prepared - because the competition is about to get real! To close out this month's Bass Bulletin we are introducing a new monthly segment called “Did you know?” where we will share advice and tips to help players learn new mechanics and possibly even catch some giant bass!
