New Route, New Unit, New Sounds, New Livery!
Travel between three cities across England’s East Midlands region, all connected by Trent Junction in this ‘Y’ shaped route. Leicester, Derby and Nottingham sit at the end of each section, with a variety of services in place taking passengers between each city.
Arriving in Train Sim World for the first time is the 2-car Class 158 ‘Express Sprinter’ DMU, built in this area at Derby’s Litchurch Lane Works. Joining it is an older variant of an iconic favourite – the Paxman-powered Class 43 HST. These come courtesy of a new operator to the game, East Midlands Trains, with the colourful Stagecoach livery appearing in a setting from around 2019.
Both units are a collaboration between Skyhook Games, Armstrong Powerhouse (providing the sounds for each) and Dovetail Games, with particular focus on ensuring that the audio for each engine can be represented as well as possible. The Class 158 has a working GSM-R, like the Class 323 from Birmingham Cross-City, and the HST’s interior has been remodelled in both the cab and the Mark 3 coaches. This, with the VP185 engine sounds and minor visual differences on the outside, make this a different beast to that featured in Great Western Express.
131 playable services represent passenger trains between all three cities, as well as local Class 158 services from and to some of the intermediate stations along the way. Depot runs to Eastcroft Depot can also be played and there’s a selection of additional service layers featuring rail tours, stock moves and the RHTT for those with some of the following routes and locomotives:
- Northern Trans-Pennine
- London Commuter
- Rail Head Treatment Train
- ROG Class 37/7
- West Cornwall Steam Railtour
